Testimonial: "It was so reassuring last week to see her come out of her session so much more upbeat and optimistic than when she went in. On the way over she was expressing resistance and skepticism about therapy along with a healthy dose of teenage surliness, and when I picked her up it was such a dramatically different demeanor. Honestly, it made my day to hear her talk (albeit limitedly) so positively about her experience."- mother of a teenage client.

I am now more conscious and aware of what is going on inside and have found a huge outlet for my of creative expression. I feel more confident in myself and have let go of f several fears I didn’t realize where under the surface."- Adult Client

Draw it Out, ran an art therapy group at Also Out Youth, a safe haven for gay/lesbian/transgendered/ questioning Youth. One of the directives was to make a tree like yourself. A group member made this piece of art and called it it "Make your Own light" She described the tree as surrounded by darkness and chaos represented by the torn edges of the page. There is a female figure in the body of the tree that gives off colorful waves of light. She explained that she comes from a chaotic life but has learned to make her own happiness.
Inner beauty shines at showwww.heraldtribune.com
For 8 weeks during the summer I did art therapy with the girls at Girls Inc. They formed a inner beauty, self-esteem building, fashion club and had a presentation at the end of the 8 weeks. For the art therapy portion of the program we built figures. I call this process "build a person" and each girl wrote down personal strengths on pieces of tape and used the tape hold the armature of the figure together. The armature starts off as pipecleaners, and then layers of cotton and aluminum foil are added to strengthen the figure. The girls posed the figures and then plastered. They then decorated them to show their personal style and inner beauty.
These were on display please click the link to the article in the sarasota herald tribune to find out more about this amazing and empowering program. Inner beauty shines at showwww.heraldtribune.com
This client wrote down all the negative things in her life and people who have violated her trust. Tore up the pieces made recycled paper with the them..
Here is an example of a painting a client did, who often wrote a list of negative words to express her self hatred. This painting represents her growth and change, as she represents the leaves of the tree with positive words.
Worry Jar Project!
Here is an example of an group art therapy project! The group was directed to write down worries or fears on coils of model magic and then roll them out, providing a kinesthetic sensory experience. This created beautiful colors and swirls, that they constructed into a coil pot. This symbolically transformed their worries into something beautiful and functional as a opposed to keeping worries in fears inside, which is dysfunctional.
